- Feb 2011:00 AMMartin Luther King, Jr. CelebrationMark your calendars for the annual MIT MLK Jr. celebration luncheon.The MIT community gathers every February to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Institute began its annual celebration of Dr. King Jr. in 1975 with memorial activities and lectures by prominent speakers, including a keynote address by Coretta Scott King in 1994. Martin Luther King Day was designated an Institute holiday in 1976, a decade before its first official observance as a federal holiday.Hosted by MIT President Sally Kornbluth, these celebrations feature remarks from MIT leadership, from each of the recipients of that year’s MLK Leadership Awards, from a staff speaker nominated by the community, and from a keynote speaker who is a prominent leader, nationally or in the local community, in accordance with Dr. King’s dual emphasis on global and local issues.Our keynote speaker this year is Spencer Paysinger, aformer American football linebacker who became a co-producer and actor on the television series "All American," based on the story of his life.The deadline to RSVP is Monday 2/10 at 9am.We are committed to making this event fully accessible to everyone who wants to attend. Brian Yutko, SM ’11, PhD '14The Aerospace Innovation Seminar Series will feature speakers from some of the biggest names in entrepreneurial aerospace — many of whom started as students in AeroAstro!Brian is the Chief Executive Officer of Wisk Aero, a leader in the Advanced Air Mobility market. Wisk is building and certifying the world’s first autonomous, all-electric aircraft for commercial passenger use. Wisk is headquartered in Mountain View, California and regularly flight tests its autonomy systems and full-scale electric aircraft in the region. Wisk is actively building and testing their 6th Generation aircraft, the company’s first certified product for commercial use, and working with the FAA on a type certification program. The company’s goal is to bring safe everyday flight to everyone. Brian brings extensive leadership and engineering expertise from his previous roles at Boeing, where he led sustainability and future mobility initiatives. He also served as Chief Technologist for Boeing NeXt and was on the Board of Directors for Wisk. Prior to Boeing, Brian held senior positions at Aurora Flight Sciences, specializing in aviation autonomy. He holds a Ph.D. and Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.This seminar series is part of the Certificate in Aerospace Innovation offered by the MIT Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics in collaboration with the Martin Trust MIT Center for Entrepreneurship.
